LIVING ROOMS

BEFORE

Small room, overstuffed and bland.

AFTER

Added crown moulding for height and a daring wall color - smaller furniture pieces.

BEFORE

Uninteresting wall.

AFTER

Added propane fireplace, bought an old mantel & repainted - gave room a focal point.

BEFORE

Good dining/living space but cold and uninspired, particularly as the room has a magnificent view of the Hudson River.

AFTER

Warmed up the room with a honey/mustard matte paint.  Differentiated the dining space with bold cream stripes anchored by 1/2 columns. Used smaller sitting pieces in the living room grouped to take advantage of the River view. Elegant result.

BEFORE

Very tiny living room for a senior single. Every inch was important and correct measurement crucial.

AFTER

Found a perfect undersized rocker/recliner and a small settee without a skirt. Wooden legs makes the piece lighter looking and adds a sense of greater space. Rocker faces TV (not seen) making viewing comfortable and convenient.

BEFORE

The tiny living room from a different angle. Door is to outside patio and could not be blocked.

AFTER

Settee fits perfectly along the wall with just enough room for a long but narrow sofa table to hold a lovely lamp and some personal photos. Client's mirror hung above sofa to reflect the room. On a door opposite the sofa a full length mirror was added to visually enlarge the room. A perfect area rug and curtains were added to work with the colors of the furniture and the end result is a charming and comfy room that works.

BEFORE

Shown earlier. The main wall of a small living room in a country cottage.

AFTER

The completed mantelpiece that was painted a bright white. I used gold paint to highlight the decorative trim. Mirror, statues and framed print are all from an antique barn and cost, in total, about $100. The mantelpiece was also $100. The room with its gas fireplace is now the heart of this home.

DINING ROOMS

BEFORE

An unfocused "blah" dining room with poorly hung artwork.

AFTER

Bold striping adds some drama. Again, a gas fireplace with antique mantelpiece was added for interest and to center the room. Dated chandelier was removed and "eyeball" lights added to spot the client's oil paintings. The client's breakfront was kept-just repositioned. Elegant dining room, particularly with the fire going.

BEFORE

A classic formal dining room with built in corner cupboards and wonderful light. The challenge was to preserve the natural elegance of the room but infuse it with a casualness that suited the clients' lifestyle.

AFTER

Warm gold walls and bright white trim lightened and brightened the formality of the room. Used the clients' existing dining set which, with its touches of sage worked so well in the room. Added a sisal rug with sage trim and wall decor. Voila!

An antique (replica) chest was topped by a great antique (actual) mirror. Topped the chest with some fun and inexpensive decor items and the result is a lovely and functional serving corner, Hung the adjoining wall with some big, bold plates to add a bit of dash to the room.

BEFORE

An ungainly kitchen with no practical flow, badly planned. No counterspace on either side of the stove and impractical trips to the sink from the end of the kitchen.

AFTER

Less expensive to remove entire kitchen to an unused mud room. Turned remaining space into a dining room as the client desired. Added some wainscoting and chair rail, painted sage green and then dragged over with a cream color to age the look. Walls above were painted a soft honey and then ragged with cream to give some depth. A selection of mirrors were added to enlarge the width of the room. A junky antique store coughed up a magnificent dining set as the finishing touch for the new room.

BEFORE

A dining area was crammed into the remaining space of this former kitchen.

AFTER

The cleared space allowed the spotlighting of a lovely, calm vista outside and opened space for walking to/fro the new adjoining kitchen. Country curtains perfectly suit the color scheme.

BEDROOMS

BEFORE

A combo child/guest room cries chaos! Poorly arranged and mismatched furniture adds to a cluttered and unattractive room.

AFTER

Removed all furniture including wall shelves. Repainted with a French blue ragged with white. Baseboards, doors, window trim and loeuvred closet doors (not seen) were painted a bright white. Old bureau and mirror found in an antique store (total $90) were painted bright white also. Dresser was cattycornered to give more space and interest and mirror hung from ceiling with white chain.

BEFORE

Another view of same bedroom. Busy curtains and comforter decrease the size of a small room in which there is no harmony.

AFTER

Used valances going right to ceiling to add height to the room and long flowing curtain panels for the same reason. Complementary colors of comforter and area rug, pulls room together visually. Result a peaceful, glowing room that is so much more functional.

BEFORE

Same house with a second small bedroom, busy and dull.

AFTER

Painted room a serene celadon with ragged stripes for heighth. Found another dresser in antique barn ($75) and painted it white adding some fun drawer pulls. Small trunk under window found in another antique store ($85) provides seating area as well as additional storage in room.

BEFORE

Same room, different view. Furniture pieces much too dark and large. Placement of furniture limits walkway.

AFTER

Cleared all furniture from entrance wall to clean up walkway. Different style faux painting was used on bed wall which along with the decorative scroll adds both height and interest. Result is a bedroom that is tranquil and lovely. A great room to wake up in!

BEFORE

Childs room - cluttered.

AFTER

Painted stripes to heighten wall, chose cheery color. Repositioned furniture, added sense of play with rainbow & butterflies. Mixed new furniture w/old for a charming feel.
